What is Croquet and how do I get started?

Croquet relies on accuracy and tactics rather than speed and strength, so it’s playable by anyone of any age on equal terms. There are several different forms of croquet, but the two main ones played in the UK are Association Croquet and Golf Croquet.

The two games use the same equipment, and many people enjoy playing both. Golf Croquet is a game of accurate ball placement and straight hitting, so has much in common with golf. Association Croquet allows bonus shots, and is similar to snooker or pool. Both games reward strategic planning, and include a handicap system. This allows a smart player the chance to outfox an opponent, no matter what their level of physical expertise.

This part of the site explains a bit more about what each game involves, and gives you some detail on the history of the game’s origins.

What is Croquet and how do I get started?

Unfortunately the club is now closed until 2nd December due to the Covid-19 lockdown

The best way to get started is to turn up to one of our introductory sessions that are held every Saturday between 10 AM and Noon. Alternatively you are welcome to join us at one of our club sessions and enjoy a game - members are always happy to explain our sport. We also offer members free tuition with our club's coach.

Club sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays 2 PM to 4 PM throughout the year, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 PM to 8 PM from April to October.
